Stretch marks during pregnancy

Stretch marks during pregnancy

Waiting for a baby is one of the happiest and most exciting periods in a woman’s life. Life is filled with new meaning, as well as hassle associated with the replenishment of the family. First of all, care is directed to the child: the preparation of a dowry and the arrangement of housing, but the future mother should not forget about herself. During pregnancy, the body completely rebuilt, which entails a lot of changes in the body of a woman.

One of the unpleasant consequences of pregnancy is the appearance of stretch marks on the skin. According to the scientific they are called “striae”. What is dangerous stria? Yes, nothing. By themselves, they have absolutely no effect on the health of women. All their trouble is in appearance.

Stretch marks on the skin look like white pearly scars, different in length and width. “Fresh” stretch marks can have a red, purple, violet shade – this is due to the fact that the place of rupture on the skin is filled with connective tissue, rich in capillaries. Over time, they become discolored and on the light skin striae become almost invisible. However, stretch marks are absolutely insensitive to ultraviolet light and on tanned skin will always stand out.

Where do they come from?

Stretching, based on the name, arise in response to a sharp stretching of the skin. During pregnancy, especially in the third trimester, the abdomen, chest and thighs greatly increase – it is in these zones that striae most often appear. The second reason is a change in the hormonal background in pregnant women. The level of progesterone and estrogen increases, while the level of collagen and elastin, responsible for the elasticity of the skin, decreases. The third reason is a genetic predisposition. It was also observed that in light-skinned women, striae appear more often than swarts.

What to do?

Unfortunately, stretch marks, if they already appeared, can be completely eliminated only in cosmetic clinics with the help of special procedures, such as: laser resurfacing, chemical peeling, plastic surgery. However, you can reduce the risk of their appearance and make the strips that have just appeared less noticeable.

For prevention, as well as during the treatment of stretch marks, it is important to monitor the diet. Add to the diet foods rich in protein (meat, legumes) and vitamin E (nuts, unrefined vegetable oils). It is very important not to overeat! Sharp weight gain contributes to this problem.

Skin care is also necessary for prevention. Use special cosmetics for expectant mothers, which is designed taking into account the characteristics of the body of a pregnant and lactating woman. When looking for a suitable cream, pay attention to the composition of the product: it should be as natural as possible, contain various extracts and vegetable (non-mineral!) Oils. Active components in creams from stretch marks are:

Collagen

Vegetable oils (olive oil, cocoa butter, avocado, jojoba, etc.)

Vitamins A and E

Amino acids

Important: during pregnancy, the skin is very sensitive, in some cases, striae can appear even when carrying a finger on the skin. Therefore, rubbing the cream into the skin, act very gently and gently, without pressure.

And most importantly: dear moms, future and real – love and accept yourself as you are. You are beautiful in your role!
