Cancer is not one disease, but a group of diseases, which are based on unlimited growth of body cells. What do we know about cancer? Practically nothing but the myth about cancer, which causes panic fear and a number of problems in the education of each person’s responsibility for their health.
People are afraid of the very idea of the need to see a doctor, so as not to hear something unpleasant, connected even with a suspicion of a tumor. Given a number of circumstances and traditions that have developed over the centuries, the diagnosis of “cancer” in the people is associated with the death sentence. One such type is thyroid cancer, its peculiarity in the severe course and complexity of diagnosis at the initial stage.
Importance of early diagnosis
Foreign experience demonstrates that awareness of people in this problem promotes earlier detection of tumors, and therefore timely treatment at a stage when the disease can still be overcome.
It can be compared with weeds in the garden, which get out of control, grow and kill flowers, and then the whole garden.
At an early age – during a period of intensive development – the cells of the human body multiply rapidly, but upon reaching maturity they can divide and multiply only when it is required to replace damaged tissues or to heal wounds.
Cancer cells are like cells that have lost control and continue to grow tirelessly. Oncological neoplasm deprives nutrition intended for the functioning of healthy cells, compresses and damages nearby areas. Cancer cells can separate from the original source of origin and be carried with the flow of blood and lymph to other parts of the body and form secondary foci (metastasis). If cancer metastases affect the main organs (liver, diving, etc.), life expectancy is significantly reduced.
But not all tumors are cancerous. Benign tumors increase in a certain area and are harmful only when the nearby organs are squeezed and prevent their natural functioning. They can be removed without any complications. Nevertheless, some of them may eventually degenerate into malignant, so they need constant medical supervision.
Factors provoking oncology
The causes of cancer are different. This can be the action of carcinogenic substances (cancers – a word of Greek origin, meaning crab-like). For example:
Bladder cancer is more common in people who work with aniline paints;
Cancer of bones – in those who work with radium;
Lung cancer can be caused by inhalation of chromium, asbestos and radioactive ores;
Skin cancer can develop on contact with brown coal, petroleum products.
Industrial waste in the environment is a source of carcinogenic substances.
Another serious source is strong radiation. Even solar radiation, if abused to stay in the sun, can cause skin cancer, especially in people with fair skin. Large doses of radiation can cause many forms of cancer.
It is not excluded that individual forms of cancer can be caused by viruses.
It was not possible to establish that cancer is a hereditary disease, with the exception of some rare forms.
Cancer is not contagious. The disease of cancer among close relatives is more evidence of the same conditions of life, nutrition, etc., than a sign of heredity.
Cancer is, undoubtedly, the disease that requires the fastest possible treatment for the safety of the patient’s life. When the tumor still has limited localization, it must be removed or destroyed. If it is not found or ignored, the formation can cause the death of a person. Cancer ranks second among causes of mortality after cardiovascular diseases.
With the timely diagnosis of cancer, thousands of people can be saved. The percentage of cancer treatment reaches almost 50% and is characterized by the fact that in such patients for at least 5 years after diagnosis and treatment of cancer there are no any manifestations of the disease. In addition, many patients with appropriate treatment can lead a normal life.
Important for timely diagnosis of cancer are preventive examinations that should be performed regularly, regardless of what your state of health does not indicate any significant changes in health.
Another important element of cancer prevention is the cessation of smoking, as it is reliably established that smoking increases the risk of cancer not only of the lungs but also of other organs.
Be sure to see a doctor if there are abnormalities in bowel or bladder excrement, wound or sore that do not heal, strange bleeding or discharge, hardening or swelling in the chest or elsewhere, digestive upset, difficulty swallowing, the wart has changed markedly Or a mole, an importunate cough or wheeze appeared.
Pain is rarely a symptom of cancer, do not wait for its appearance, if you are confused for a long time, do not delay the visit to the doctor.
